Retail barcodes, QR codes and buying from us
Barcode overview
A barcode number is a unique sequence of digits that is used to identify a particular product or item. Barcode numbers for retail products are usually 12 or 13 digits long. Barcode numbers can be encoded into a barcode image (vertical black bars and spaces) that, when scanned at the checkout, will be connected to the barcode number and product information.
Barcodes allow companies to distribute and sell their products in a variety of Point of Sale scenarios. Before you can start selling your products off and online, you must acquire a barcode for each unique product that you plan on selling. If you already know what you need you can purchase barcodes here.
Once you’ve bought your barcode
When you order your barcodes through us, it will be emailed to you with the guarantee and images as attached files (in 5 different formats – .eps, bitmap, tiff, jpeg & PDF). You can then get your barcodes incorporated into your product packaging in an easily visible flat location, either by yourself, or by your graphic designer. Please refer to the barcode specifications when doing this.
We can also send you sticky barcode labels to be manually stuck onto your product.
What’s the Difference Between UPC and EAN?
EAN’s (European Article Number) are used internationally, while UPC’s are the most commonly used bar codes in the United States. Most stores will accept both product EAN codes and UPC codes, although if you are planning on selling your products in the United States, a UPC code might be best for you.
EAN format bar codes contain 13 digits, leading with a “0” in front of the standard GTIN-12 digit UPC code. Both barcode images, however, are identical.
